First Time Down The Slopes 2014!

IMG_0439 IMG_0445 IMG_0448 IMG_0456

Yesterday we packed the car full and drove up to Breckenridge for the night. Tom and I planned to ski for a couple hours and then take everyone sledding. We rented a nice condo on the river walk for the night so we wouldn’t have to worry about the traffic down the mountain. We got to the lifts at around 1pm and Tom realized that he FORGOT his ski poles! I learned how to ski when I was 6, and they didn’t let you use poles when you started learning. Tom doesn’t know how to ski without poles though, so he ended up renting a pair.

We eventually made our way onto a lift. I’m always nervous the first run of the season because I’m usually a little rusty. But this year it didn’t take long for me to get used to my board again. It seems to get better every year. I also bought a new pair of boots and a new jacket……..so that helped. My boots hurt at first because they kept digging into my calf, but after about an hour they felt better. We skied for 2 hours and it was really fun. The snow was good and the sun was out. I’ll do a separate post about the gear I use while snowboarding.

At 3:30pm we started heading back to the condo, but we got on the wrong shuttle bus. That was a little bit of a headache. Audrey wasn’t a huge fan of sledding. I couldn’t figure out if it’s because she was FREEZING or if it was the spray of snow that hits your face on the way down. I ran her back to the car and turned the heat up so she could get warm. Her boots were wet and her poor feet were blue. Once the sun went down we headed back to our condo for dinner. The next morning we woke up to heavy snow. It was coming down hard so we packed quickly and headed out. Tom had to be home in time to make it to work at noon, but the snow really effects driving time down the mountain. We barely made it home in time for him to shower and head out. Well that was our trip up to the mountains. Hopefully there will be many this winter!

Driving To Texas!

IMG_1694 IMG_1701 IMG_1713 IMG_1717   This year we are spending Thanksgiving in Texas with my sister. We took our time driving down which was nice. We would drive a few hours each day during Audrey’s nap times. The first night we drove through blizzard conditions from Denver to Trinidad CO. We stayed at a Comfort Inn that night and Audrey’s really didn’t let us sleep. I think she was getting used to the driving schedule. The roads were so slick and there was just so much ice and snow everywhere. The next morning we took a dip in the indoor pool, which was actually COLD! Saturday we drove from Trinidad to Childress TX. It was blizzard conditions yet again, and the drive was pretty boring. We almost ran out of gas too. Women DO NOT trust your men to keep track!!! We watched as the gas predictor went from 30 to 20 to 13 and then just started blinking as if to say “FILL ME UP NOWWWWWW!”. In Childress we ate dinner at a Chinese buffet and the owner had her children there so Audrey got to play with them for over an hour. Her baby was 10 months old and had 4 teeth! Our baby girl still has ZERO! That night we stayed at a Hampton Inn, and you all know how much I LOVE Hampton Inns. This one was not as nice as other Hampton Inns, but it was still nice. We had a nice swim in their indoor pool the next morning before we left. We left Childress and drove to Dallas Sunday. It was a shorter drive and it wasn’t snowing so that was great. We stayed at a Candlewood Suites near downtown. This hotel was an extended stay type of place so we got a room with a living room, kitchen, and bedroom for $85. It was really nice being able to set Audrey’s crib up in the living room. The poor baby has had a nasty cough the last few days so she’s been waking us up quite a bit. It’s hard hearing your little baby cough all night.    This year we are spending Thanksgiving in Texas with my sister. We took our time driving down which was nice. We stopped at Dealey plaza to see the area where JFK was assassinated. We were pretty disappointed with the memorial they has set up. It was basically a concrete square. We didn’t stay long. It was freezing there and our hands were ice blocks. It took us about 4 hours to get to Houston from Dallas. That leg was pretty bad too. The rain was nearly blinding. It didn’t let up the whole time we were on the road. It was pretty intense, but we finally made it to the guest house we are renting. We used https://www.airbnb.com/ to find a place to stay and so far we have been very impressed.

Hi From Las Vegas!

We have been in Las Vegas since Friday. We left Audrey with her grandma for the week and they have been having a great time. She’s getting spoiled because her birthday is TOMORROW!!!! I am so so so so so so so saaaaaaaaaad. Well not really, but I definitely will miss the before ONE phase of having a baby. This year went so fast. We definitely miss our little baby with blonde curly hair. She is SO cute.

Here we were at the airport waiting to hand the baby off to grandma

We’ve been enjoying the beach here at the Madalay Bay. Our first room felt a little over used, but they moved us to a room with a king size bed. This room felt less abused, but definitely needed an update. Over the weekend the beach was extremely crowded, but its been empty during the week. We stopped by the Coca Cola store and took a picture with the polar bear.

Saturday night we went to the Mirage to see Daniel Tosh do a standup show! IT WAS HILARIOUS! He was just great. Some crazy drunk lady tried to walk up onstage and when he saw her coming he said “I’m positive you’re not going to make it!”. The timing was perfect and it was so funny. This lady ended up causing other problems throughout the night and Tosh didn’t miss a beat. We ate at a burger place before the show and tried FRIED OREOS! They were so unhealthy tasting. They tasted like oreo flavored donuts.

Monday night we had a black tie event to go to. Obviously we have been busy here! But it’s been a nice vacay away from our little baby. The weather has been great every day and I may even come back to Colorado with a tan!

CHICAGO!

Hello everyone! I have not posted a current VLOG for a bit and the reason is, because we are in Chicago. Tom has meetings here this week, and since we usually stay together whenever possible, we are here too. But let me tell ya, it’s SO SO SO HOT! It’s almost unbearable. I see the restaurant employees filling flower pots with ICE! It’s actually quite miserable. Today Tom wanted to go to the aquarium and the 2 mile walk nearly killed me. Audrey was screaming the whole time, my feet are blistered and sore, Tom was grumpy, and it just wasn’t that fun. ON TOP OF THAT the aquarium was sold out for the day. On our walk back we tried for an hour to find a cab back and by the time we did we were nearly back to the hotel. It was a disaster.

But before all of that terrible-ness we ate at the famous Bill Goat Tavern. The only reason this place is still in business is BECAUSE it’s famous IMO. The burgers were not good, the place was very messy, and the location was under a dark bridge……how creepy. But Tom wanted to eat there because he saw a skit on SNL about this place. I got a double cheeseburger and I really didn’t like it. Audrey had the grilled cheese, but I have to admit I ate more of it than her.

Now we are back at the Fairmont relaxing in our room. We decided to order a “14 Inch” pizza from room service but when it arrived it was an “8 Inch” pizza. We were pretty upset and sent it back. This pizza was so small and we were convinced they made a mistake. We decided to just forget the room service all together and order Domino’s. And for $15.15 we got a large pizza vs. the 8 inch $19 pizza from the Fairmont. Ahhhhhh long day.
