One Step Closer To Spring!

IMG_1629

Now that February is over we are getting really close to SPRING! I love the itch I get for spring when it’s right around the corner. Back in Colorado February and March were hard months for me. They are long and cold, but every once in a while a warm day will get tossed into the mix. That single warm day wakes you up and gets you so excited for warm weather. Unfortunately it quickly leaves and you are left with snow and cold until MAY! It’s a cruel trick Colorado and it used to make me depressed. Well now that we are in Texas I can say it’s been nice ALL month.

February has been packed full of things for us. #1 Broncos won the Superbowl!!!!!!! YAY! I can’t believe it. I think I’m still in shock. #2 Audrey started Karate! I was looking to put her into another activity to keep her busy and she’s still too young for a lot of the dance classes. Soccer didn’t start until March (she’s doing that too) so we looked into Karate. I bought a Groupon for a place nearby us and got suckered into an annual contract. The sticker shock with Karate is pretty real. I didn’t know this sport was so expensive and strict. Not only do you have to pay monthly fees, but you have to buy a ton of gear. Ugh, but once I saw her in a Karate uniform I was sold. You can’t put a price on cuteness.

My mom came for Superbowl weekend and we went out with her Saturday night. It was cold, but she wanted to go dance to unwind. It was a fun night.

Audrey got to really experience her first Valentine’s Day at school. We made her Valentines together and she was having so much fun. She got to exchange them with everyone at school and she gave them away to her gymnastics group. She’s still talking about “Balentine’s Day”.

Aunt Marcia came to town and we went up to Austin for the weekend. While Tom and Audrey went with Aunt Marcia, I went to have a girls night with my sister, mom, cousin, and aunt. The next morning I went to meet Tom cheer on Marcia. She came to run the Austin Marathon and we were there at the finish line cheering her on.

The finale to our February was the Home and Garden show where we met Jeff Lewis! He was the speaker there and I was SO excited. He was just as funny as he is on the show “Flipping Out”. He was doing a question and answer session for everybody. We asked him his opinion on our house hunting woes and took pictures with him. He was very nice and he said he would stay until everyone got to have a picture with him. Gage was also there and we were shocked at how tall they actually were. AH so exciting!

So February was a fun filled PACKED month for us. I am so excited to start seeing some flowers and trees start to bloom. Spring is around the corner and the weather is already nice here in Texas. I know that spring cleaning bug is going to get me soon. Bring it on!

Lancome Genifique and Visionnaire

IMG_1759Edit

I started becoming really invested in my skincare when I was 21. I wish I started earlier, but I was just uneducated about the whole thing. I thought skincare was only for people who weren’t born with good skin. Even though my skin looked fine on the surface I discovered that underneath, my skin had endured a lot of sun damage. This began my passion for skincare.

It is HARD to pick the right skincare products. There are so many out there to choose from and I’m sure a lot of them are great. Every skincare brand promises that they have the magic ingredient, and a lot of them do. I think there are a lot of ingredients that are wonderful for skin, not just one. The question is which one works best with your skin. My skin seems to change what it needs every 6 months so I am constantly changing my routine. I’ve been feeling like something has been missing in my routine, so I’ve been looking around. It’s so hard to shop for skincare at a department store because every salesperson says their product is what you need.

I decided to skip that headache and go to Ulta. After looking around I realized that I had never actually tried Lancôme skincare. Crazy I know! Lancôme Genifique is very popular on YouTube but I haven’t heard anything about the Visionnaire line. Since they came in a set for a great price – $115 for both, I decided to give it a try.

I started using them morning and night with my Biore cleanser and Clarins toner. I’m impressed! The Genifique serum comes in a great pump bottle. It’s the typical serum consistency, but it absorbs within seconds leaving my skin ready for moisturizer. The Visionnaire moisturizer is a thicker cream but it also absorbs quickly. It doesn’t leave a greasy residue. My skin just feels soft and moisturized. I love the scent also. It’s light and floral, not too strong. I have combination skin with dry patches and these two products have been working great with my skin. I’m glad that I decided to try them. I don’t know how well they fight wrinkles because I don’t have too many of those yet. The texture of my skin seems smoother and happier. I haven’t had any dry patches since I’ve been using them. My skin seems to be getting what it needs right now and that’s good enough for me.

I have some AMAZING NEW skincare items to share with you today. One is dry and the other is a gel, but both smell so wonderful and make your skin feel amazing. What’s the secret weapon in the fight for clean PORES: Baking Soda! Now this household staple has a place on your vanity as a natural cleansing ingredient and exfoliator. These products are perfect for combination skin.  I was especially impressed with the Bioré Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub.

This Powder Scrub is the first to mass technology. It was so interesting because I’ve never used a skincare product like this. It’s a white powder that you activate with water. As you scrub the powder exfoliates your skin and becomes creamy. It exfoliates dry flaky skin without over-scrubbing. When I scrubbed my face it started to mildly tingle. I could feel the baking soda fizz. It was so cool and I enjoyed feeling it work on my skin. After I rinsed it off my skin felt amazingly soft! I couldn’t stop rubbing my cheeks. My pores were left clean, soft and smooth. I prefer to use the Bioré Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub in the evenings to ready my skin for a good nights rest.

The Bioré Baking Soda Cleanser is a gel with some grainy-ness. The scent is the same as the scrub but it’s a tad stronger. I really like the scent so it doesn’t bother me. It’s light and fresh unlike a lot of synthetic smells in products today. I also like the Cleanser a lot. I use this in the morning because its quicker. It does a great job purifying my pores and cleaning my skin. It’s important to use good cleansers to prep your skin for the other products you use in your routine.

The Bioré Baking Soda Cleanser and Pore Scrub are a great prep for my next step which is toner. From there I’ll use my serums and moisturizers. I use my eye cream last.
