Schlitterbahn New Braunfels!

IMG_2541 IMG_2547
We went to the Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels at the end of June this year. It was great as usual. Last time we didn’t have the other 3 kids with us, so this time we were introducing them to the coolest water park on earth. Of course they loved it! But hey whats not to love. The Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels has such a unique charm to it. When we went it was open from 10am – 8pm and that still wasn’t enough time to ride everything. It’s definitely a destination water park.

My favorite part is that they let you pack coolers and bring them in. It’s pretty amazing that a big park like this let’s families bring their own food to picnic with. This is a huge plus for large money conscious families. And don’t be worried about finding a nice spot to camp out at. There are a lot of spots available to use as a home base. Every time we’ve gone we’ve even found shady spots under large trees. This time we bought a pizza at the snack stand for around $16. It was pretty good. There are places to order food everywhere around the park so if you’d rather not pack a picnic you could just eat there.

Watch our video and experience the park with us!

If you guys are coming to visit the Schlitterbahn New Braunfels location soon read our tips to make your visit go smoothly.

TIPS:

  • There is a lot of walking involved so try to bring some type of wagon to carry everything. We bought a folding wagon at Walmart for $49, they also sell them at Costco for $55 (we just  got another one).
  • Park at Schlitterbahn East and take the shuttle between East and West. Schlitterbahn West is not friendly toward wheeled things (ie. stroller, wagon, coolers) so we recommend finding a home base at Schlitterbahn East so you can bring your wagon.
  • There are plenty of picnic tables and shade (first come first serve) at the East park around the Gator Bowl Activity Pool/Kids Area.
  • Bring lots of sunblock and remember to re-apply!
  • Pack sunglasses and hats you don’t mind losing! I lost both my hat and sunglasses going down one of the rapids at Schlitterbahn West.
  • Bring waterproof cases for your phones so you can keep them with you. It’s a big park and you don’t want to get separated.
  • Don’t bring valuables inside the park. If you cant get them wet then leave them at home or in the car. Once you drop your stuff off no one is there to watch them. You can also rent a locker.
  • If you have a lot of $$ to spend or are coming with a group we recommend renting a cabana. Premium cabanas are close to $400 for 6-10 people, but they include things like TV, fridge, water, towels, ceiling fan, reserved parking, and a waiter for ordering food. We would go this route if we had a baby that needed a mid day nap. Or if we were going with another family that could split the cost. There are cheaper cabanas that are just a covered table and chairs. Some of the cabanas even have grills that you can use to BBQ! Both East and West sides have a huge selection of cabanas.
  • Bring a waterproof camera if you have one. I use my GoPro Hero 3.
  • Get there early! We always arrive at the time it opens and leave at closing and that isn’t even close to being enough time.
  • If you are from out of town stay at the Schlitterbahn resort! You’ll get perks like discounted tickets and access to the park. Make a weekend vacation of it.
  • HAVE FUN! For the real unique experience spend a lot of time at Schlitterbahn West. I promise you’ve never been any place like it.
